When it comes to spring cleaning, you don’t want to forget about the windows that do such a great job of protecting you throughout the year. The wind blows, the rain falls, and the windows keep it all outside.

Windows also do a great job of providing a spectacular view from inside the house. Whenever you may want to look outside and appreciate the view without leaving the comfort of your home, the window is there for you.

Now it’s your turn to be there for your window.

This spring, take the time to add “clean the windows” to your deep cleaning list.

Here’s what you need to know for a thorough clean of the windows.

The Windows

This is the perfect time of year to clean both the inside and the outside of all the windows in your house. To start, wipe the inside panels with your favourite glass cleaner using either a microfiber towel or a paper towel. Make sure to clean the window sills and frames to leave no dirt behind.

Clean the outside windows by first spraying them with a hose or power washer. This will clean off the tough layers of dirt so you don’t waste as many towels. Then, clean the glass the same way you cleaned the inside windows. Again, don’t forget about the frame, shutters, and anything else around the window that could use a good clean.

The Window Treatments

Here at Quickfit, we specialize in custom roller blinds. This is a simple style of blinds to keep clean. The roller blind is made out of acrylic coated polyester. To clean the fabric, it is easier if you remove it from the roll. First, dust both sides of the blind with a dry feather duster. Then, use a damp sponge or cloth and wipe it clean. Finally, you can let the blind air dry or use a different dry towel to pat it dry.

Do not put these blinds in the washing machine or dryer. It will compromise the integrity of the material. If there is a particularly tough stain, you can use a mild detergent on a sponge to spot clean it by hand.

Curtain panels are easy to clean, too. The polyester curtains, which is the standard material for sheer curtains and ready-made curtains, can be cleaned in the washing machine. Use cold water and a mild detergent on a gentle wash cycle.

Do not tumble dry the curtains. Instead, hang them on the line to dry. It’s important that curtains hang flat to dry. Otherwise, they can wrinkle and won’t look great as you finish your spring cleaning around the house.
